How we counted

Counts come from People Data Labs, which aggregates public professional profiles. A person counts here when their profile lists the school in their education, a job title containing the phrase “investment banking analyst”, J.P. Morgan as an employer, and a graduation year of 2013 or later. Those are four conditions on one profile, not on one job: the source flattens employment history, so we cannot confirm the analyst title was held at J.P. Morganrather than elsewhere in the same person’s career. For most people here it plainly was, but read the figure as profiles matched to the bank rather than as a verified headcount. The title filter excludes other divisions — equity research, sales and trading, asset management, and wealth management titles never contain the phrase — along with summer-analyst internships. Data pulled 2026-08-25.

That loose matching matters most where a bank employs a large non-advisory workforce, since a profile can pair an analyst title from one employer with a different employer elsewhere in the same career. Wells Fargo is the clearest case on this list: its investment bank is run out of Charlotte, which genuinely does pull from the Carolinas and Virginia, but it also employs far more people outside investment banking than any pure advisory firm here, so read its regional skew as real in direction and probably overstated in size. People titled just “Analyst” are missed throughout, which deflates every bank evenly.
